Self-styled godman Siva Shankar Baba has been hospitalized in Chengalpattu, hours after he was lodged in the Chengalpattu prison in a POCSO case with a connection to the sexual harassment allegations levelled against him by the former and current students of Sushil Hari International School in Kelambakkam in the outskirts of Chennai, the institution that he established by the godman.
On Thursday, the godman was produced to a Mahila court in Chengalpattu and the judicial body had ordered the police to take the godman into judicial custody for 14 days till July 14. He was lodged in the Chengalpattu prison for further investigations into the sexual allegations. According to reports, the godman had complained of health issues in the prison post which the officials had decided to take him to the hospital.
On Friday, he was rushed to the Chengalpattu government hospital for treatments and hundreds of police personnel were deployed to the hospital. Prior to lodging him in the prison, the police had taken the godman to his lounge in Sushil Hari school premises as he used this private space to unmask his face and force the students to have sex with him under the guise of branding himself as Lord Krishna.
The police team headed by CBCID SP Vijayakumar had visited the godman's lounge and gathered documents and hard disks. By sealing the room, the officials had taken it into their control. It must be noted that the CBCID police had arrested Siva Shankar Baba in Delhi on Wednesday while he was at large to evade the arrest. Hundreds of students had filed complaints against the godman.
Based on the complaints of sexual allegations, the Chennai police had booked a case against the godman under POCSO Act. The case was earlier transferred to CBCID and the special teams were formed to nab the accused godman. After incessant manhunts, the police had arrested Siva Shankar Baba in Ghaziabad, Delhi. He was hiding in one of his devotee's residences. After the apprehension, he was brought to Chennai and after producing him to a Mahila court, he was taken into judicial custody.
