In a shocking piece of news, actor Arya has on Tuesday appeared before the Chennai police after he was summoned by the law enforcement agency in connection to a complaint that was filed against him by a woman by alleging that the actor had cheated her with a fake promise of marrying her. The woman had further said that Arya had received Rs 70 lakh from her and refused to repay the money. 

According to reports, a woman named Vidja, a Sri Lankan woman settled in Germany, had filed an online complaint to the Chennai police that Arya had cheated her for Rs 70 lakh by promising to marry her. The woman had also disclosed the screenshot of her WhatsApp chat with Arya and demanded to take action against the actor. Some of the reports had said that Vidja had written to the President and the Prime Minister's Office that the actor had Rs received Rs 70.40 lakh from her stating that he was financially struggling due to the lockdown. 

Vidja had moved her petition to the court through a Germany based lawyer against the actor and the case was heard two weeks ago during which the judge directed the Chennai police to collect more information regarding the case and adjourning the hearing to August 17. Based on the complaint, the Chennai Police had issued a summon to Arya and on Tuesday, he appeared before the cybercrime wing of the Chennai police for investigation. The reports say that Arya had come to the police commissioner's office at around 7 pm on Tuesday and appeared before Cybercrime wing inspector Geetha. 

The interrogation went on for three hours during which the police officers questioned the actor based on the woman's complaint. The officials had sought details to ascertain whether there are grounds for the complaint against him. A police officer in the know has said that the case is yet to be registered against Arya and it was a formal inquiry to record his statement based on the woman's complaint. The cheating complaint against Arya had shocked his fans and cinema fraternities. It must be noted that Arya is married to actress Sayyeshaa Saigal and the couple were blessed with a baby girl recently. 

Arya and Sayyeshaa had married in 2019 after they fell in love with each other during the making of the movie 'Ghajinikanth'. Arya was last seen in a blockbuster movie 'Sarpatta Parambarai' that was directly released on Amazon Prime on July 22, 2021. Bankrolled by Shanmugam Dhakshanraj under the banner of Neelam Productions, the movie is directed by Pa  Ranjith and Santhosh Narayanan had composed the music. While Arya played the lead role, Dushara Vijayan, John Kokken, John Vijay, Pasupathy, Kalaiyarasan, Anupama Kumar, Shabeer Kallarakkal, Santhosh Prathap, and Shivashankar had played the important roles.
