In a shocking piece of news, a minor girl in Tamil Nadu has attempted suicide after a teacher has sexually assaulted her. When her attempt to take an extreme step came to revelation, the police have apprehended the accused teacher and a case has been registered against him under POCSO Act.
According to reports, the incident has happened in the Vellore district. A 56-year-old teacher has sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl student, who was in Class 7. She had said to her parents to change school, but didn't divulge that she was sexually assaulted by her teacher. Her parents didn't accept to change school as she hasn't told them about the mental trauma she was going through.
The girl had then attempted suicide on March 26. The issue has then come to light and reached the police. During the investigation, it was found that the teacher, who was identified as Muralikrishnan, has assaulted the minor student for over a week. The police had then arrested him and taken him under custody. An FIR was registered against the accused under sections 7 - sexual assault, 8- punishment for sexual assault, 9- aggravated sexual assault, and 10- punishment for aggravated sexual assault of the POCSO Act.
According to IANS, Thiruvallam police in the Vellore district have said that the accused teacher was also booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 1998. The affected girl is hospitalized at Vellore government hospital and she is doing stable. It has been reported that Vellore District Educational Officer T Sampath said that the teacher has been placed under suspension.
