A 20-year-old nurse in Tamil Nadu had attempted to commit suicide in the morning hours of last Sunday after she was gang-raped by four men, including her friend. The horrific incident happened on Saturday - June 25 and she was left on the roadside. After the incident came to light, the parents of the victim filed a police complaint against the accused men at the all-women police station in Chengalpet.
The nurse had sustained multiple sexual assaults. It has been reported that the woman had completed her diploma course in nursing and was going to Vellore for a job interview. She was waiting at a bus stop near Chengalpet along with her friend at around 11 pm on Saturday during which the nurse's friend 29-year-old Saravanan, a resident of Athoor, had arrived at the bus stop and approached them in a car.
Saravanan had invited the nurse for dinner following which she boarded the car, informing her friend that she would join her later. Within moments after the drive, Saravanan had called his three friends to accompany them. Of the three friends, two have been identified as 21-year-old Sarathy, who is a B.Com student, and 22-year-old Surya Prakash, who is an advocate.
Saravanan had picked three of them on his way and he then took his car to a desolated area. After reaching there, all the four men had forced the nurse to drink alcohol and they gang-raped her. Later, the men had left the girl on the roadside and left the spot. The nurse had reached home the next morning and she attempted to commit suicide. After learning about the incident, the girl's parents had filed a police complaint against the accused men at the all-women police station in Chengalpet.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the four men under charges of rape, kidnapping, and criminal intimidation. While the three accused had absconded, the police had apprehended the nurse's friend 29-year-old Saravanan. The police have launched a manhunt to trace and locate the three other accused who are on run.
