In a shocking development, 'Master' director Lokesh Kanagaraj has on Monday said that he had tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection. The development has come when Tamil Nadu has been witnessing a sharp surge in fresh COVID-19 cases amid election fervor.
Taking to Twitter, Lokesh Kanagaraj issued a statement and said, "Hello everyone, writing this to inform all my friends, family & well-wishers that I have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been admitted in a private hospital where I'm being taken good care of. Will be back soon & stronger". His message has shocked his fans and they have been expressing their wishes to the filmmaker for a speedy recovery. Though the fans reacted in a huge shock, they have been pouring their prayers to the director to get well soon.
By testing positive, Lokesh Kanagaraj joins the club of celebrities who had tested positive for novel coronavirus. Earlier, actors Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Karthik Aaryan, and cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Yusuf Pathan, and Badrinath had confirmed to have contracted the viral infection and they have been observing home quarantine.
35-year-old Lokesh Kanagaraj rose to fame by directing Thalapathy Vijay in 'Master' that was released during this year's Pongal. The movie has become a blockbuster hit both on the commercial and entertainment corridors. Master had hit the screens after a long delay triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and the movie has become a significant one for Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj.
The movie was produced by Xavier Britto under the banner of XB Film Creators and while Vijay played the lead role, Malavika Mohanan played the female lead. For the first time, actor Vijay Sethupathi had played antagonist for Vijay and the movie also had Santhanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah, Dheena, Gauri Kishan, and Ramya in lead roles. Anirudh had composed music for the movie.
Lokesh Kanagaraj was also known for directing Maanaadu and Kaithi and he will be directing Padma Shri Kamal Haasan next in the movie 'Vikram'. The growing director has tested positive when Tamil Nadu has been adding more cases to its tally after a sharp decline. On Monday, Tamil Nadu has reported over 2,000 cases for the third straight day.
According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 2,279 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday and overall, the state has reported 8,81,752 cases so far as of Monday of which 13,983 are active, 8,55,085 have been discharged, and 12,684 had succumbed to the viral infection.
