Shocking: A case is filed against this BJP Chief Minister under attempt to murder!

Amid ongoing tensions triggered by the border skirmish in the Assam-Mizoram border, the Mizoram police have filed criminal cases against Assam-ruling BJP Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, two Assam administrative officials, and four senior Assam state police personnel. In what has become a shocking development, an FIR was lodged against the Assam Chief Minister at the Vairengte police station in Mizoram on Friday.

According to reports, the cases were filed in connection with the violence that happened on the outskirts of Vairengte town in Mizoram's Kolasib district. Speaking to PTI, Mizoram Inspector General of Police John Neihlaia said that the cases against the Assam Chief Minister and Assam officials were booked under various charges including an attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy.

The cases were filed against four Assam police personnel and two administration officials and all of them were summoned by the Mizoram police for investigation on Sunday. The four Assam police officers named in the FIR are Inspector General of Police Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Inspector General of Cachar Devojyoti Mukherjee, Superintendent of Police Cachar Chandrakant Nimbalkar, and officer-in-charge of Dholai police station, Sahab Uddin.

Besides these top police officers, the Mizoram police had also filed cases against 200 unidentified Assam police personnel. The Assam-Mizoram border has been witnessing scenes that escalate tensions and impasse between the neighbours after both of them had accused each other of encroachment in their respective borders. Earlier this week, the border has witnessed violence where five police officers were killed in the clash and the border skirmish has drawn national attention and both the state governments had urged the intervention from the Union government.

While the Mizoram police had booked criminal cases against the Assam Chief Minister and police personnel, the Assam Police had summoned six Mizoram government officers, including Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Kolasib district, to appear at the Dholai police station on Monday, as a counteract to Mizoram's police action of filing cases against the Assam Chief Minister.

Assam Police had filed a case against the Mizoram officials under sections 307 - attempt to murder, 302- murder, 147 - rioting, 149- unlawful assembly, 120B - party to a criminal conspiracy, and 34 - criminal act with the common intention of the Indian Penal Code. They have also been charged under sections 153A - promoting enmity between different groups, 447 - punishment for criminal trespass, 336- acting so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life, 379- theft, and 333- causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from the duty, and 427- mischief.

Both the states had accused each other of being a reason behind the border skirmish and both the Chief Ministers had urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah's intervention. Amit Shah has earlier this week spoken to the Chief Ministers of Assam and Mizoram and urged them to ensure peace along the disrupted border and work out for an amicable settlement. According to reports, the situation currently in the border remained tense but calm as a large number of CRPF troops have begun patrolling at the areas which had witnessed violent clashes between the residents and police personnel of both states.
