In what could become a shocking development for Vijay fans, Thalapathy's upcoming 'Master' has been surfaced with speculations with multiple reports confirming that the movie could skip the big screens and will get released on the OTT platform on Pongal 2021. 

Social media have been brewing over such speculations, which have come when the movie team had placed multiple assertions earlier that Master would be getting released in the theaters. Recently, the teaser of the movie was unveiled and it had earned great and immense reception from the fans. With the movie has slated to release in the second week of January next year during the Pongal holidays, there were mixed reactions over the mode of release. 

As the theaters have resumed its services recently after remaining closed for over seven months in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown, the theatrical release of Master has been under the strong expectation from the theater owners to enjoy a significant breakthrough for the revival from financial distress and from the fans who are eagerly waiting for relishing treat from Thalapathy in big screens. 

While the release has been confirmed, the movie has been surfaced with speculations that it will premier directly on the OTT platforms. The OTT platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+Hotstar have been emerging as the new feet for the movie industries to walk on during the lockdown and indefinite closures of theaters. These platforms had birthed to be the only choice for movie industries to release their movies and take them to the direct reach of the fans in the mark of settling for a new normal. 

With many movies had already got released on OTT, Master has also been speculated that it will skip the theaters and get released on OTT. However, the movie team had asserted multiple times that it will not give space for OTT and said that the movie would be released on the big screens. The producer of the movie had said that actor Vijay wishes to release the movie in the theaters. As the theaters were finally resumed, the fans have been relishing to watch the movie on the big screens. 

The teaser of the movie was released on Diwali and it had created a record in becoming the most liked teaser on Youtube in India and the record has perfectly captured how the fans are waiting to watch the movie. When it was anticipated that the movie will get released on Pongal, it has now been speculated that OTT has won the race in releasing the movie. 

According to the latest reports, the streaming rights of Master have been sold to Netflix and the US-based OTT giant will be releasing the movie exclusively during Pongal 2021. The wider circulation of such reports had pushed the fans to be dubious on the mode of its release. Highlighting such speculations, the actor's fans had gone abuzz on whether the movie team has slipped away from its assertions and decided to skip the theaters. 

However, neither the movie team nor Netflix had issued conformity that the movie has been slated for the OTT release. Back in September, the movie team has said 'Master' was made for a theatrical release and it will be out only in theaters in the middle of the celebrations of fans. However, the confirmation from the reports that the movie was sold to Netflix had ultimately shocked the fans who were in agog to watch the movie on the big screens and the theater owners who expected to have a significant breakthrough by releasing the movie on the big screens. Streaming guide LetsOTT Global has now confirmed that Master has initiated talks with the OTT platform for the release.
