At the end of September, Manirathnam's nearly 35-year labour of love, Ponniyin Selvan 1, finally arrived in theatres and won millions of fans' hearts. Although the fans have been waiting with bated breath to see the second half of the epic Chola story, the film's premiere date on television has finally arrived, and the anticipation is palpable.
Ponniyin Selvan featured an iconic cast including Vikram as Adhitha Karigalan, Karthi as Vandhiyathevan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Nandhini, Trisha as Kundhavai, Jayam Ravi as Raja Raja Chola, Jayaram as Aazhvarkadiyan, and Aishwarya Lekshmi as Poonguzhali. The cinematic debut of the periodic drama was on September 30, 2022, while its OTT premiere was on November 4.
On January 8th, the magnum opus will be aired for the very first time on television on Sun TV at 6.30pm. On account of the fact that it is a Sunday, it is likely that the TRP scores will be strong. While AR Rahman composed for the film's score, Thota Tharani was in charge of the art direction. Ravi Varman was the one in charge of the cinematography, and A. Sreekar Prasad was for the editing.
The makers recently announced the release date of the sequel to Ponniyin Selvan: I. The film will hit screens on April 28 during the summer. The film also featured Sarathkumar, Prabhu, Lal, Kishore, Ashwin Kakumanu, Prabhu, Sarathkumar, Rahman, Jayachitra, and Parthiben, in crucial roles. Backed by Mani Ratnam's own production banner, Madras Talkies, and Allirajah Subaskaran's label Lyca Productions.
