Sivakarthikeyan, the charming actor of Kollywood, has delivered a blockbuster with his latest film Maaveeran. The superhero origin story, directed by National Award-winning Madonne Ashwin, has impressed the audience and critics alike with its engaging plot, stunning visuals and powerful performances.
The film released on July 14th, has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at the worldwide box office in just five days of its release, and by the end of day 7, it gained Rs 61 crores worldwide, as per reports. Now the fantasy actioner is on its way to join the elite 100 crore club soon.
Maaveeran tells the story of Sathya, a comic artist who is afraid of confrontations and prefers to live a peaceful life. However, his life changes when he survives a near-fatal accident and starts hearing a mysterious voice that guides him to become a hero. The voice belongs to none other than Vijay Sethupathi, who lends his charisma and wit to the film. Sivakarthikeyan shines in his role as the reluctant superhero, who has to face his fears and fight against the evil forces led by Mysskin, who plays a menacing villain.
The film also features Aditi Shankar as the female lead, who makes her debut with this film. She plays a journalist who falls in love with Sathya and supports him in his journey. The film also has Saritha, Sunil and Yogi Babu in supporting roles, who add to the humour and emotion of the film. The music by Bharath Shankar is another highlight of the film, as it elevates the mood and action sequences of the film.
Maaveeran released in Tamil and Telugu on July 14, coinciding with Sivakarthikeyan’s birthday. The film received positive reviews from critics and fans, who praised the film for its fresh take on the superhero genre, its social message and its entertainment value.
The film opened to a strong start at the box office, earning Rs 9 crore on its first day. The film continued its dream run over the weekend, collecting Rs 10 crore on Sunday. Despite a drop on Monday, the film managed to cross Rs 50 crore at the global box office on its fifth day.
The film’s producer has declared Maaveeran as a box office blockbuster, as the film has been performing well across regions. The Telugu version of the film, Maaveeradu, has also done decently at the box office, collecting about Rs 2.71 crore till Monday.
The film is expected to maintain its momentum in the second week as well, and the trade analysts predict that Maaveeran will cross Rs 100 crore at the end of the second week, making it Sivakarthikeyan’s third 100 crore grosser after Doctor and Don. Maaveeran has also emerged as one of the top-grossing Tamil films of 2023, and is likely to enter the top 5 list soon.
