Northeast monsoon had increased the water storage from shortage!

The current spell of Northeast monsoonal rainfall had, on one hand predicted with devastating downpour, on the other hand showered with good stream of water to the reservoirs across the state as the main reservoirs which are the source of water for the state had reached with 85% of capacity in average.

It has been reported that the state government of Tamil Nadu has installed a close watch on these reservoirs that are in the verge of reaching its fullest capacity as the state has been watered by the Northeast rainfall since last week. The commissioner of revenue administration and disaster management had said that the district collectors of the respective districts have been directed to stay alert on the steep and dent areas which would get huge inflow of water during heavy rainfall as most of the reservoirs have attained maximum water storage level. The reports had stated that the state government has deployed the team of about 60 IAS officers across the state where 16 officers will be touring Chennai while 10 officers will be stationed in Kancheepuram and five in Tiruvallur districts towards monitoring and tackling the tough and unprecedented grounds of extreme rainfall and to set up the precautionary mechanisms.

The state government authorities had cited that the revenue department has been working closely with the public works department, the state highways department and local bodies to have and to enhance the prevailing parameters of disaster management. The authorities had stated that the state government is being aware to act upon the early warnings through effective communication to ensure that the people are safe and rescued as the local authorities of the coastal districts have been engaged through social media platforms to stay connected and updated.

One of the important reservoirs of the state, Mettur dam reservoir is currently storing the water level of 90tm cubic feet against its full capacity of 93.4tm cubic feet while the other dams on the Cauvery river basin Bhavanisagar and Amaravathi dams has been recorded with 29.5tm cubic feet and 3tm cubic feet against 32.8tm cubic feet and 4tm cubic feet respectively.

The reports have revealed that about 29,000 volunteers with the skills of swimming and climbing have been camped with preparedness for emergency while around 8000 volunteers were stationed to rescue the animals. The state Chief minister Edappadi Palaniswami had tabled high level discussions with the authorities today in the secretariat in Chennai where he was briefed with the weather forecast and developments further to which he had issued directives to the authorities to tackle the unpleasant predictions and ordered to release Rs 40 crores with the view of acquiring equipment , machinery and to address the immediate demand.
