The clouds of Northeast monsoonal rains have showered the city of Chennai with one of the highest recorded 24 hours rainfalls on the grounds as the winter monsoon has been predicted to get intensified in coming days.
The regional meteorological department had forecasted that the city will get light to moderate rainfall in next 48 hours while the day time temperature would stay between 25 degree Celsius to 32 degree Celsius and indicated that this Northeast monsoonal rain had recorded with highest 24 hours rainfall this season where the city had watered with 101.6mm of rainfall by the speculations of hosting very heavy rains during the course of this season.
The weather experts had revealed that a low pressure area would most likely to form on the clouds of southwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of Tamil Nadu that has been predicted to bring heavy to very heavy rains which would break the present record of rainfall. While commenting about the upcoming forecasts, Skymet weather had said that the chances are bright for the city of Chennai to witness in breaking the current records of the monthly average of rainfall this year. The meteorologists had cited that the total average rainfall for Chennai in the month of October has been graphed with 315.6 mm while the city has received the rainfall of 142mm till now.
This currently recorded rainfall of 101.6mm has been one of the four highest figures in 24 hours rainfall in the last ten years while the preceding ones were 246.5mm on October 2015, 182.7mm on October 2017 and 150mm on October 2009.
Earlier, the meteorological department had cited that the Chennai city had received 44.3mm of rainfall in June prior to the southwest monsoon while during the monsoon, the city has been recorded with 143.2mm and 121.1mm rainfall for the month of July and August respectively whereas the month of September had recorded with highest amount of rainfall in the tenure of the monsoon where it had recorded with 184mm of rainfall, that had collectively watered and lifted the city from water scarcity.
The officials stated that while Chennai has been recorded with 30% of surplus rainfall, the rest of the state had accounted with 17% of increased level of rainfall which has been registered as the much needed replacement for the city and the state which has been dried out with huge rainfall deficit.
