It’s been a year since Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan tied the knot in a grand ceremony in Mahabalipuram. The couple, who have been dating for over six years, welcomed their twin sons Uyir and Ulagam via surrogacy in October last year. On their first wedding anniversary, they took to Instagram to share some unseen pictures of their family and penned heartfelt notes for each other.
Vignesh Shivan wrote, “En uyiroda Aadharam neengaldhaneyyy…1 year filled with a lotta moments! Lotta Ups and downs. Unexpected setbacks! Testing times! But coming home to see a blessed family with immense love and affection reinstates soo much confidence and gives all the energy to keep running towards all the dreams and goals already manifested!”
He added, “Holding everything together, together with my - My Uyirs & Ulagams. The strength given by the family makes all the difference! Blessed with the best of people striving to give them a good life is all the motivation that’s needed for hustlers like me.”
Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan are one of the most popular and loved couples in the South Indian film industry. They have worked together in films like Naanum Rowdy Dhaan, Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kadhal, which starred Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha Akkineni.
The surrogacy and wedding of the couple have been the subject of scrutiny and debate. They've gotten flak from some quarters for choosing surrogacy over a natural birth. Both the couple and the surrogate mother's relative have been accused of hiding their marriage registration for six years. However, they insist that they have acted completely ethically and within the law.
Nayanthara's other projects include Jawan with Shah Rukh Khan, The Test with Madhavan, Meera Jasmine, and Siddharth, and Lady Superstar 75 with Jai and Sathyaraj. Kamal Haasan's RKFI is producing a new romantic drama with Vignesh Shivan at the helm, starring Pradeep Ranganathan.
