The National Film Awards ceremony was rolled out in New Delhi on Monday in which Indian Vice President Venkaiah Naidu honored the recipients across all the languages and the ceremony had presented the surprise faces who queued up to the dais for receiving the awards. The ceremony was organized in Vigyan Bhawan and Vice President took the stage in the place of the President as Ram Nath Kovind had his day in Puducherry where he took part in the convocation at the Pondicherry University.
Bollywood's Big B Amitabh Bachchan was conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke award for this year but the veteran Bollywood actor missed the ceremony since he was sick. While addressing the ceremony, Venkaiah Naidu had paid tribute to senior Bachchan by calling him as 'an institution by himself'. Following that, Mr. Naidu presented the best actor award for Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal for AndhaDhun and Uri respectively while Tamil Nadu's Keerthy Suresh awarded the Best Actress for the year for her performance in Mahanati movie in Telugu whereas Bollywood's Akshay Kumar's movie PadMan was conferred with the best film on the social issues.
In the line of receiving the ovations are Actress Surekha Sikri, who was awarded the best-supporting Actress for her performance in 'Badhaai Ho' and the award of Best Music direction was bestowed on Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the movie 'Padmaavat' and Shashwat Sachdev for 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' while four child artists P V Rohith for 'Ondalla Eradalla', Shrinivas Pokale for 'Naal', Sameep Ranaut for 'Harjeeta' and Talha Arshad Reshi for 'Hamid' were awarded as the Best Child artists.
Gurajati's 'Hellaro' was conferred with the Best Feature film and Best director award had gone to Aditya Dhar for 'Uri' while Sudhakar Reddy was accorded with Indira Gandhi Award for his Marathi movie 'Naal' and the Marathi movie 'Paani' was bestowed with the Best Film on Environmental Conservation.
As far as the best movies in each language are concerned, 'Turtle' has been awarded as the Best Rajasthani Film and 'Bhonga' was conferred as Best Marathi Film and Priya Krishnaswamy directed 'Baaram' was awarded as the Best Tamil film and 'AndhaDhun' was named as the Best Hindi Film whereas 'Sudani From Nigeria' was accorded as the Best Malayalam Film while Telugu's Mahanati was conferred as the Best film of Tollywood.
