Amid filled with incessant expectations and excitements from the fans and audiences, Vijay's 'Master' has been becoming the first movie of the actor to witness unprecedented delay in getting released and while the movie team is equally balancing the expectations and the delay, the reactions from the fans for every announcement and speculation have been capturing how they have been relished and eagerly waiting for the release of the movie.
'Master' is done and has been slated for release on the Pongal holidays, during the second week of January 2021. As the teaser of the movie was released during this year's Diwali, the movie is just two steps away from hitting the big screens - trailer and release. Master's teaser has achieved a milestone by becoming the most viewed teaser on Youtube in India and the feat had perfectly shown how Thalapathy's fervent fans and audiences have eagerly waiting for the movie even for many months.
The movie was supposed to hit the theaters in April 2020. However, the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown triggered by the pandemic had deferred the release and the fans of Vijay are about to close 2020 without witnessing the release of the actor's movie for the entire year with Bigil, that was released during Diwali 2019, was being the last. Amid such developments, the movie has now been surfaced with the speculations that the movie's trailer would be released on New Year 2021.
According to reports close to the developments, the film's trailer might get released in New Year 2021, which would become Vijay's treat to his fans and it would hit the big screens two weeks after the release of the trailer. If everything goes well as per the speculations of the fans, the movie team might announce the trailer release date on Christmas. The fans have been trending the hashtag #MasterTrailer since Sunday on Twitter and they expressed how relished they are to watch the trailer of the much-anticipated movie of Thalapathy, given its crew and storyline.
However, the movie team is yet to make an official announcement concerning the release of the trailer and the movie. Recently, Tamil Nadu Minister Kadambur Raju said that Vijay's 'Master' will release in theaters on January 13, 2021, one day ahead of Pongal. In what has become the first statement of announcing the release date, the reports say the movie is confirmed to have slated for the release during the Pongal festival. Raju, who is the minister for Information and Publicity, had stated that he will review the application regarding special shows for 'Master' after the producers move the petition.
Recently, Master had surfaced with strong speculations that the movie team has been in talks with the leading OTT platform over releasing the movie through the streaming site by skipping the theaters. The reports further stated that Netflix has bought the rights of the movie and it would be releasing the movie exclusively. The development has shocked the fans as they were waiting to see the actor on the big screens. The fans had taken to Twitter and trended the hashtag of #MasterOnlyinTheaters and demanded the movie team to release the movie in the theaters.
Following the speculations on the OTT release, producers Xavier Britto of XB Film Creators and Lalit Kumar of Seven Screen Studio had released an official statement in which the makers had affirmed that Master would only be released in the theaters. The producers said, "Though we have an offer from a reputed OTT service provider, we prefer the theatrical release, which is the need of the hour for the industry to survive the on-going crisis. We also request the theater owners to stand with us and provide their support for reviving the Tamil film industry. We hope to reach out to you soon, with the good news".
