'Master' Vijay's sudden meet with TN CM EPS: What was Thalapathy's demand?

In an unanticipated development, actor Vijay has met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami on Sunday, and the sudden and closed-door meeting has occupied the headlines ever since it came to light. Though the actor has neither denied nor admitted the meet, the reports close to the developments had stirred speculations on what could have discussed between them.

According to reports, Vijay had met the Chief Minister in the evening hours of Sunday during which the actor has demanded the Chief Minister to permit 100% attendance in the cinema theaters when his upcoming movie 'Master' will be released on the big screens. The movie producer Lalit Kumar and senior ADMK Minister SP Velumani were present during the meeting. Vijay's meeting has come at a high time when 'Master' is days away from the release.

The movie has been slated for a release on January 13 during the Pongal holidays. In what has become a significant development, 'Master' would be one of the crucial Tamil movies to get released on the big screens next year and the release has been expected to give a potential breakthrough to the theaters as they seek the revival from the lockdown. With having been closed for seven months, the theaters are hoping for a resurging New Year on the revenue corridors.

As the ardent fans are preparing to celebrate 'Master' Pongal to see the actor on the big screen after one-and-a-half-years, the movie team is also preparing to make sure that the fans are allowed the watch the movie in the theaters in full scale. The COVID-19 regulations issued by the Tamil Nadu government had permitted only 50% of occupancy in the theaters after the resumption. The theaters are ordered to adhere to the guidelines and ensure that the audiences are following the guidelines.

With the view that the government's order would block full occupancy, the movie team has been planning to avail exception from the state government and the reports say that actor Vijay has directly pitched in to speak with the government. Following that,  Vijay and movie producer Lalit Kumar had met the Chief Minister on Sunday and demanded to permit 100% occupancy for the theaters so that a large number of fans can watch the movie.

Though the government had resumed the theaters on November 10, the absence of the movies of the big stars had pushed the theaters to witness low income and yearn for a potential revival. With Pongal approaching, the theaters are hoping for a breakthrough in 2021 and with the release of Master, they expect a large crowd to watch the movie. After bracing up the incessant wait, Vijay fans are fervently waiting for the release of the movie. As the teaser has already been released during Diwali, the movie has been expected to get released on January 13.

The reports say that the sudden meet between Vijay and the Chief Minister has held major importance as it has come at a high time when the government has been working out to keep in place the restrictions in the wake of a new strain of the COVID-19 viral infection. The reports on last week said that the ticket bookings for 'Master' will begin from January 7. The movie has become the most delayed one for Vijay in recent times. While it was slated for release in April, the release met with an unprecedented delay due to the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown triggered by the pandemic.

Master is directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and while Vijay plays the lead role, Malavika Mohanan plays as a female lead and the movie has roped in Vijay Sethupathi, Andrea Jeremiah, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Arjun Das, and Gauri Kishan in the important roles. Anirudh has composed the music and the movie is the first project for Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj. Sathyan Sooryan would be working on cameras and Philomin Raj has been inducted as the editor.
