On Friday, while addressing the reporters at the party headquarters, the DMK President and state's opposition leader M K Stalin has accused the ruling ADMK government that, he claimed to be, afraid of holding local body elections. He stated that the ruling government has been creating many confusions with the motive of avoiding the local body polls.

His notion comes days after the DMK has approached the Supreme court to enhance the legal battle and through its petition, the party has sought a direction issued to the state government to complete the delimitations of the wards in five new districts. Stalin asserted that the party has moved the apex court with the view of ensuring that the local body polls are conducted as per the guidelines of the apex court.

He further cited that the state government hasn't completed the delimitation of the wards in all districts including new mapped districts and accused the government of not reserving seats for the women and ST communities in town panchayats. By claiming that the DMK is ready to face the elections, he said that the state cabinet has recently consented to change the direct elections to the posts of mayors and chairmen who would be elected indirectly through the councilors. Stalin added that these confusions that were created by the government have forced the party to move the petition in the Supreme court.
