Keezhadi, the village in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district has been unearthing more precious and unique discoveries in each and every phase of excavations that have been rewriting and redefining the history that's been recorded as the advancements of excavations had taken the archaeologists back to much more ancient civilization where the excavations had revealed that Keezhadi has the samples of hosting oldest and ancient Tamil civilization on the banks of Vaigai river that was connected to Indus valley civilization.
Since 2014, the archaeological department along with the state department of Tamil culture had concluded five phases of excavations in which Keezhadi uncovered the real age of Tamil Sangam era which is about 2,600 years older and further exhumed that the Tamil Sangam people had attained the literacy and art of writing and the proven possibilities of promoting the agriculture and cattle. The fifth round of excavation was called off on October 13th 2019 after the tenure of four months in which over 900 artefacts were discovered along with pots of different sizes, earthenware and carved stones.
The reports say that the fifth phase had strongly cemented the possibilities of an urban civilization lived alongside the banks of Vaigai river and these recent discovered artefacts had justified the presence of the grounds of good infrastructure with potential water management parameters. The archaeological department of Tamil Nadu which explored the grounds of Keezhadi on fifth phase of excavation had said that it has exposed two red colored terracotta pipes that were resting about 47 centimeters deep inside the exhumed pit and reports indicated that these pipes were 60 centimeters long and its mouths were 20 centimeters in diameter where they had spotted three holes on one of the pipes and added that while exhumed, they were fitted into each other from which it had certainly revealed that these pipes should have been used to pump the water during the period of civilization.
Adding to the line of discoveries, the fifth round of excavation had also unearthed a filter that would have been used to store liquids or water passing through the pipe which had pictured the advancements of water and storage technology and the archaeological department had cited that this water channel is believed to have roots from the water drain and a tank that was unearthed during second phase of excavations and further expressed the expectations that the parameters of water management would still hoped to be exposed during next level of explorations.
The previous rounds of excavation had presented with the precious discoveries that had indeed shown that the lives of Keezhadi would have lived with deep understanding and knowledge on technology and with sounding maturity and literacy.
