The head of the world's largest family has passed away on Sunday. Ziona Chana, who was living in Mizoram with 39 lives, 94 children, and 33 grandchildren and was said to be the head of the world's largest family, has passed away in Mizoram on Sunday at the age of 76. Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga had announced the news of the demise of the septuagenarian.
The Chief Minister has said that his village in Baktawng Tlangnuam had become a tourist attraction in the state because of Chana and his family. According to reports, Chana has breathed his last on Sunday due to kidney failure and other health complications at Aizwal's Trinity Hospital.
Chana was heading a group called 'Chana Pawl', which is known for polygamy, the practise of marrying multiple spouses. Chana Pawl is a minor Christian cult formed in 1942 in Mizoram by Chana's father. Ziona Chana was born in 1945 and he married his first wife at the age of 17. His first wife was three years older than him and he married his last wife in 2004.
The reports say that Ziona had built a four-storied house called New Generation Home in his village where his family including all wives, his sons, and grandchildren stayed together. His daughters are living with their respective husbands. The family has been attracting a number of tourists across the country and it has over 180 members.
Taking to Twitter, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga wrote, "With heavy heart, Mizoram bid farewell to Mr Ziona (76), believed to head the world's largest family, with 38 wives and 89 children. Mizoram and his village at Baktawng Tlangnuam have become a major tourist attraction in the state because of the family. Rest in Peace sir."
