As India has been brought under the unprecedented lockdown since March 24 with the view of flattening the curve of COVID-19 affected cases, the prevailing spread of the pandemic amid the restrictions shows that the country is nowhere near to get back to normalcy and revive the ailing economy.
Although the Central government has poured some relaxations on the less affected areas, it has kept the restrictions alive in the most hit regions including hotspots and containment zones and it is yet to grant the cure to the fix the broken economy and employment corridors as the unemployment rate in India has surged unprecedently high in the wake of the lockdown.
The nationwide lockdown has been extended till May 17 and the nation has no surety that it won't be extended further and the opposition parties are urging the Center to put forth the action plans after May 17 as it has been burdened with balancing healthcare and economical crisis. According to the Union Health Ministry, India has reported 3,390 fresh cases and 103 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Tamil Nadu has become one of the states in India to resume the operations of the liquor shops despite strong condemnations from the opposition parties. The resumption amid the outbreak feared that it would surge the affected numbers and the government has also extended the timings of the essential services from 6 am to 5 pm. In the midst of these developments, a Tamil Nadu BJP leader has written to Prime Minister Modi asking the latter to impose the Governor's rule in Tamil Nadu.
Our sources say, Narasimhan, who is one of the BJP's executive committee members and party's former MP, has addressed to the Prime Minister to invoke Presidential rule in Tamil Nadu under Governor. In his letter, he has stated that Tamil Nadu is not under the position of conducting the state legislative assembly elections in May next year. The state people have lost their livelihoods and students are affected due to closure of the educational institutions in the wake of the lockdown. People of all ages have been facing vulnerability and they are not under the situation to face elections.
The BJP leader called the Prime Minister to defer the legislative election which is due to take place by April -May next year and the Center should invoke Governor's rule in the state until people get back to normalcy following which the election can be rolled out to elect the next state government.
According to the Election Commission, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Puducherry, and West Bengal are due to face the legislative elections next year.
