Actor Soori, who is known for his comic roles in Tamil cinema, is all set to surprise the audience with his transformation as a serious actor in Vetrimaaran’s upcoming film Viduthalai Part 1. The film, which is based on a short story by B. Jeyamohan, revolves around a police operation to capture a separatist leader played by Vijay Sethupathi.

In a recent interview with popular media house, Soori shared his experience of working with Vetrimaaran and Vijay Sethupathi, and how he prepared for his challenging role. He said, “You will see a different Soori in this film. I had to undergo physical and mental training to fit into the character of Kumaresan, a police constable who is recruited for ‘Operation Ghosthunt’. I also had to learn how to handle guns and do stunts.”

Soori revealed that he was offered many comedy roles while shooting for Viduthalai Part 1, but he turned them down as he wanted to focus on his performance. He said, “I thought that there should be no disturbance in the shooting of Viduthalai Part 1. I wanted to give my best for this film as it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.”

He also expressed his gratitude to Vetrimaaran for trusting him with such a crucial role. He said, “Vetrimaaran sir is a genius director who can bring out the best from any actor. He guided me throughout the film and helped me understand the nuances of my character. He also gave me a lot of freedom to improvise and explore.”

Soori also spoke about his co-star Vijay Sethupathi, who plays Perumal ‘Vaathiyaar’, the leader a separatist group that fights against the authorities for committing atrocities against innocent village women. He said, “Vijay Sethupathi sir is a phenomenal actor who can pull off any role with ease. He was very supportive and friendly with me on the sets. He also congratulated me after learning that I am playing the lead role.”

Soori also revealed that he has signed three more films as a lead actor after Viduthalai Part 1. He said, “Next, I will play the lead role in a film directed by PS Vinod Raj, which produced by Sivakarthikeyan, and for director Vikram Sukumaran and a film directed by Aamir.” Viduthalai Part 1 is slated to release on March 31, 2023. The film is produced by Elred Kumar under the banners of RS Infotainment and Grass Root Film Company. The film has music by Ilaiyaraaja and cinematography by R. Velraj.
