It was decided at a meeting of the 'Union Federation of All Bank Employees', that a one-day nationwide strike would be held on June 27th.

The United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU), an umbrella body of nine bank unions including All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC), All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), and National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW), decided to go on strike.

"A one-day strike is taking place across the country on the 27th, emphasizing key demands for the abolition of the new pension scheme for employees who joined the service after 2010, and the old scheme should be implemented.  Bank employees are required to work for 5 days a week " said General Secretary of Bank of India Employees Union, C.H. Venkatachalam.

AIBOC General Secretary Soumya Dutta said that about 7 lakh workers across the country would participate in the strike if the government and management of banks are insensitive to the unions’ demands.

Before this strike, June 25 and June 26 are Saturday and Sunday there will be bank holidays. Hence in such a scenario, banks will remain closed for three consecutive days which may affect customers.
