A legal battle has erupted over the release of Mamannan, a Tamil movie starring Udhayanidhi Stalin and directed by Mari Selvaraj. A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court by OST Films, a production company that claims to have signed Udhayanidhi for another movie titled Angel, which is 80 percent complete.
The petitioner alleges that Udhayanidhi is ignoring the call sheet for the remaining 20 percent shooting of Angel and is focusing on Mamannan instead. Mamannan is slated to hit the screens on June 29 and has generated a lot of buzz among the audience.
The songs and teaser of the movie have received positive response and the trailer has crossed 10 million views on YouTube. The movie is said to be a political drama , starring Vadivelu, Keerthy Suresh, Fahadh Fasil, while Udhayanidhi Stalin leads the film.
However, the release of Mamannan may face a hurdle if the petition filed by OST Films is accepted by the court. The petitioner, Rama Saravanan, says that he has invested 13 crore rupees in Angel, which is directed by KS Adhiyaman and features Udhayanidhi as a journalist. He says that Udhayanidhi had agreed to complete Angel before taking up any other project, but has breached the contract by acting in Mamannan.
The petitioner has sought an interim injunction to restrain Udhayanidhi from releasing Mamannan until he finishes Angel. He has also demanded 25 crore rupees as compensation for the loss caused by Udhayanidhi’s negligence. The petition is expected to come up for hearing soon.
