The Members of Rajya Sabha, amidst passing three bills, have united together by cutting down the party lines on Monday in demanding Justice for the deceased Hyderabad doctor who was gang-raped, killed and set ablaze on last Wednesday that has mounted the anxiety and revealed the failing parameters on the awareness and the lack of women's safety and had spurred the anger and uncertainty among the women on their safety.
Death Penalty, lynching the rapists, and castration were the words largely used by most of the members of the Upper house today beyond the party lines as they collectively expressed their dismay on the safety of the women where the members and the Chairman have admitted that the incident as a total disgrace.
Speaking in the house, Jaya Bachchan MP of Samajwadi Party said that the accused rapists should be brought out in public and lynched. She stated that the people want the government to give a proper and a definite answer in delivering justice for the deceased doctor. She urged that the security personnel in charge of the area where the crime was reported must be held accountable. She added that lynching the rapists publicly would be the only possible way to end all of such crimes and violence against women. The actress turned politician has demanded speedy investigations into the case and awarding extreme sentences for the accused.
The Leader of Opposition in the Upper house, Ghulam Nabi Azad has stated that it was high time that the people from across the nation should stand up against such crimes and brutality despite having many acts and laws to deal with the heinous crimes. The Member of Trinamool Congress party Shantanu Sen had urged the government to implement strong steps by tabling stringent legislation, by constituting fast track courts and by pronounced extreme sentences to the accused. He added that the accused should be awarded the punishment before the public that will make the people think twice before committing such crimes.
House Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, after proposing zero hour to discuss the safety of girls and women in India, has labeled the Hyderabad incident as a total disgrace to all the principles of humanity and said that the incident is highly condemnable. He further added that the country is not under the requirement of the new bill but it's under the requirement of political will, administrative skill, change of mindset to tackle and to address the crimes and social evils. He tabled his suggestion to re-evaluate the prevailing practice of consenting the convicts of heinous crimes to apply mercy petitions.
The member of the DMK party, Wilson has cited that the current and existing laws to tackle such crimes are not stringent and called on to empower the judicial bodies to pronounce surgical or chemical castration for the accused of rape and murder. Last Wednesday, 27-year-old Hyderabad Veterinary doctor was alleged gang-raped, killed and her body was set ablaze by four truck drivers and her body was recovered on the wee hours of Thursday and the police team, which is probing the death, have arrested four truck drivers Mohammad Areef, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, Jollu Shiva and Jollu Naveen with the connection to the abhorrent crime.
