Under the proven allegations of sexually abusing the school students, a government school teacher of Namakkal has been suspended by the District Educational Officer after receiving the complaints from a few of the eighth standard students.
The accused teacher was identified as Suresh, a 37-year-old who has been working in the government middle school near Rasipuram in Namakkal for the past nine years and has been teaching maths. The issue came to the spotlight after some of the students had accused him of passing ill-ful, sexually filled comments during in-class hours. The reports say he allegedly conducted classes on human reproductive body parts for the eight class students that were not in his schedule.
By experiencing repeated episodes of such demeaning comments, the students of seventh and eighth standards in the school and their parents have submitted the complaint letter to the District Educational officer for his purposeful and intentional sexual comments following which he was immediately suspended by the district officer.
Even though his service to the school was terminated for abusing the students, he is yet to be booked by the police department and the alleged sexual abuse against the students would fall under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The local police department has cited that neither school nor the affected students filed a legal complaint against the teacher.
The reports have stated that the District Educational Officer, asserting no police involvement, has claimed that the investigations with the teacher have been carried out by the department which will conduct a transparent and detailed inquiry and the strict actions would be imposed on the teacher with accord to the investigative reports. The sources have indicated that although the accused teacher has been suspended from this school, he would be appointed in the other government school after he completed the suspension period. The students, who were mentally affected due to his actions, are being provided with counseling.
