DMDK Chief Vijayakanth and his wife Premalatha in hospital: How are they doing now?

Nearly a week after DMDK founder Vijayakanth tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection, the treating hospital in Chennai has on Tuesday said the actor turned politician will be discharged shortly and added that he is asymptomatic, stable, and responding well to routine non-invasive care.

Vijayakanth has confirmed to have contracted to the viral infection on September 22 and he has been getting treated at MIOT Hospitals in Manappakam in Chennai. While he has been under treatment, his wife and DMDK Treasurer Premalatha Vijayakanth has also tested positive for the pandemic on Monday and as the development has shocked the party members, she has been getting treated at the same hospital.

The hospital has released the official bulletin concerning the health of Premalatha on Tuesday in which it had said that Premalatha has tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Monday and she has been doing stable and under observation. 

According to reports, after Vijayakanth had tested positive, his residence in Chennai was disinfected and his family members had tested for COVID-19 following which Premalatha's sample had returned positive for the pandemic. 

Earlier while addressing about Vijayakanth's health, Premalatha said that apart from the actor turned politician, none of her family members had tested positive for the viral infection. However, on Monday she has tested positive and moved under observation. 

The reports say that Vijayakanth could have contracted to the novel coronavirus when he attended the party event that was recently held at the party headquarters in Koyambedu. Vijayakanth has already been suffering from prolonging kidney and liver-related ailments and he has been receiving treatments at home and abroad.

As of Monday- September 28, Tamil Nadu has reported 5,86,397 cases so far of which 46,306 are active, 5,30,708 have been discharged, and 9,383 had succumbed to the viral infection.
