CM EPS and Dr Ramadoss...what is going on?

With just having one year for the state legislative elections, the top political parties in Tamil Nadu have been repairing their alliance with the regional parties and most importantly, the ruling ADMK party, which is vying to retain the power in 2021, has been engineering its politics to ensure that the PMK party led by Dr. Ramadoss stays in the alliance.

Recently, after the conclusion of the first phase of the Budget session, Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has held talks with the senior cabinet ministers about the ongoing CAA protests, the second phase of the Budget session, and the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. The party has been eyeing to keep its candidates on the fray for the three Rajya Sabha seats amid the lobby from the allied parties. When we asked the senior party members about the developments, they say that the party can easily win three seats with its current strength in the assembly.

However, the allied parties like BJP and DMDK would pressure the ruling party to award the Rajya Sabha tickets for its candidates. Most of the senior ministers of ADMK told that the party should contest in all the three seats and it mustn't accept the lobby from the allied parties. The ministers stated that the party has one MP in Lok Sabha and if it allocates tickets for the allied parties in Rajya Sabha polls, it would lose its base. The sources say that the notions aired by the ministers were accepted by Edappadi Palaniswami.

Palaniswami stated that the party has awarded the Rajya Sabha ticket for PMK last time with the view of gluing the alliance and he highlighted that it becomes mandatory for ADMK to stay with PMK for the next legislative elections to take down DMK in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu and the Chief Minister further stated that there are high possibilities to witness the change in the alliance after Rajini enters politics where BJP and PMK will consider to sail along with Rajini. If PMK decides to sail with Rajini, it would largely affect the ADMK in the northern parts of the state.

With the view of gripping the ties, Edappadi Palaniswami has regularly been in touch with PMK leader Ramadoss and he has been erranding Ramadoss through senior ministers not to back Rajinikanth and the developments have been spurring up the debates in PMK's leadership circle. While we inquired about PMK's stand with the sources close to the leadership, they said that PMK founder Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss have been strong on their notions that DMK shouldn't come to power and Stalin shouldn't take the throne. PMK cites that if Stalin becomes Chief Minister, it would impede the hope of Anbumani Ramadoss in becoming the Chief Minister.

The sources reveal that the PMK has the main agenda of elevating Anbumani as Chief Minister in 2026 for which the party has to be in ascending trajectory from 2021. PMK believes that if Stalin becomes Chief Minister, the DMK would become the unshakeable political power in the upcoming years. With the motive of defeating DMK, Ramadoss had formulated the policies to weaken the rise of Stalin in 2021 and PMK has been framing its politics towards BJP, Rajini, and ADMK. If BJP assures a Central Ministerial berth for Anbumani, PMK would ally with the Central ruling party and if it denies for its conditions, PMK would keep itself in front to ally. Anbumani Ramadoss hopes to join with Rajinikanth to enhance the party's stronghold.

The sources say that ADMK's alliance would be the top pick for Dr. Ramadoss as Rajinikanth hasn't proved himself in the politics. However, the PMK's leadership circle has been pressing Ramadoss for an alliance with Rajinikanth. After coming through the aberrant developments that would crack the ADMK coalition, Edappadi Palaniswami and his team have been constructing a strong relation with Ramadoss with the view of gripping the alliance during the elections.
