BJP releases the final list of constituencies for TN Polls: What it got and what it missed?

Days after sealing the pact with BJP and PMK by offering 20 and 23 seats respectively for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly polls, the ADMK party, which leads the alliance in the state, has released the list of constituencies that BJP and PMK will contest. The development has come two days ahead of the commencement of filing the nomination papers for contesting in the polls.

The announcement of the list of constituencies had changed the wave of anticipations as both the parties were conferred with the constituencies that weren't speculated and they also had missed the seats that were predicted earlier. The release has come after the episodes of hectic talks and negotiations within ADMK- BJP- PMK over sharing the constituencies.

The parties had concluded the talks on splitting the constituencies on Tuesday and ADMK had announced that the list of constituencies will be announced on Wednesday. As announced, the ADMK- BJP had jointly released the list of 20 constituencies that the Central ruling party will be contesting in the assembly polls. The BJP had picked the constituencies from across the state and though it has revealed the list of constituencies, the Central ruling party is yet to announce the candidates for 20 constituencies.

The following are the 20 constituencies that BJP will be contesting - Tiruvannamalai, Nagercoil, Colachel, Vilavancode, Ramanathapuram, Modakurichi, Chennai Port, Thousand Lights, Thirukovilur, Thittakudi, Coimbatore South, Virudhunagar, Aravakurichi, Thiruvaiyaru, Ooty, Tirunelveli, Thalli (Krishnagiri), Karaikudi, Dharapuram, and Madurai North.

Of these 20 constituencies, BJP has chosen three constituencies -Nagercoil, Colachel, and Vilavancode from Kanyakumari district as the Central ruling party will be contesting in the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha by-poll and these three constituencies would fall under Kanyakumari parliamentary constituency. Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan will be contesting in the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha by-poll, which will take place on April 6.

Though the list of constituencies was released on Wednesday, the joint statement from both the parties was dated March 9 and the statement was jointly signed by ADMK leaders Edappadi Palaniswami and Panneerselvam and BJP leaders CT Ravi and Tamil Nadu BJP President L Murugan. Earlier, BJP was speculated to get Rasipuram constituency, Kinathukadavu (Coimbatore), Chepauk-Triplicane (Chennai), Rajapalayam (Virudhunagar), Mylapore (Chennai), Kancheepuram, Thiruttani, Palani, Athur, Vellore, and Tuticorin.

However, these constituencies were missed out on the final list. It was speculated that actress Gautami will be contesting in Rajapalayam and actress Khushbu will be contesting Chepauk- Triplicane. However, both these seats weren't awarded to the BJP but it has been reported that BJP will give a ticket to celebrities to contest in most of the awarded constituencies.

According to our sources, expelled DMK leader Ku Ka Selvam, who joined BJP, will possibly be the BJP's candidate in Thousand Lights, Vanathi Srinivasan, who is the party's national president for women's wing, can be the candidate for Coimbatore South while ousted National Secretary H Raja will be awarded ticket to contest from Karaikudi and R Srinivasan can be named as the BJP's candidate for Madurai North and Nayinar Nagendran will be named as BJP's candidate for Tirunelveli.
