Nearly after a month of incarceration, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan has on Saturday walked out of the prison and reached his home 'Mannat' in Mumbai amid a rousing welcome carpeted by the fans. 23-year-old Aryan Khan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) earlier this month in connection with the drugs case and his release was made possible by the Bombay High Court after awarding the bail to the junior Khan.
Aryan Khan's bail has come after a long battle between him and the NCB and his bail pleas were rejected by the lower courts due to which he knocked at the doors of the Bombay High Court. Justice NW Sambre had on Thursday awarded bail to Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant, and Munmun Dhamecha and the court had directed the trio to furnish one or more surety and ordered them not to leave Mumbai or India without the consent of the NCB's Investigating officer. As the bail was awarded, the Khan family took a huge breath of relief and it was expected that Aryan Khan will walk out of the Arthur Road prison in Central Mumbai on Saturday afternoon.
A copy of the five-page bail order was signed by Justice NW Sambre on Friday afternoon and Aryan Khan's legal team had begun the procedure of taking him out of the prison. As expected, Aryan Khan had stepped out of the prison on Saturday afternoon and the fans had already made arrangements from the stretch of the prison to his home to provide a rousing welcome. According to reports, Aryan Khan was received by Shah Rukh Khan's bodyguards outside the prison and he boarded in one of the cars. Several people had garnered a supportive reception to him as his release has made national headlines.
By awarding the bail, the Bombay High Court had imposed 14 bail conditions on Aryan Khan and his co-accused in the case, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha. The bail was granted at a Rs 1 lakh bond and the trio has been asked not to indulge in activities similar to the cruise party from which they were arrested and not to make any public statements about the case. They have been directed to attend the NCB office every Friday between 11 am and 2 pm, besides attending whenever they are called.
The court has also ordered them not to indulge in influencing witnesses in any manner, attempt to delay the trial and attend court on all dates in the order. Earlier on Saturday, the officials of the Arthur Road prison said that they had collected court documents pertaining to the bail of Aryan Khan. Arthur Road prison superintendent NB Vayachal said, "We have received the bail order documents and we are processing them. He (Aryan) will be released along with others who have also been granted bail. They are expected to be released between 10 am and 12 pm."
As announced, Aryan Khan had come out of the prison at around 11.30 am on Saturday and hundreds of people were seen outside the prison to take a glimpse and welcome him as he began his homecoming journey. As the sequel of the bail from what has become a high-profile case, the Mumbai Police had deployed heavy security around the prison and Aryan Khan's residence to counter any untoward incidents. Aryan Khan was in incarceration for 26 days and he was granted bail on Thursday, with surety from Shah Rukh Khan's actor-friend Juhi Chawla that was disclosed before the special court, designated to hear cases related to the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The bail has come days ahead of the scheduled two-week break for the High Court in the wake of Diwali. After a 12 km ride from the prison, Aryan Khan had reached his home 'Mannat' in suburban Bandra. Several people had surrounded his car as he entered his residence and ahead of his arrival, several fans had gathered outside the residence to welcome Aryan Khan. The fans were seen standing with the posters that read "Welcome home Aryan Khan, Stay strong Prince Aryan."
Aryan Khan was arrested by the NCB on October 3 along with Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha and booked under sections of NDPS Act for possession, consumption, sale/purchase of banned drugs, conspiracy, and abetment. They were arrested a day after the anti-drug agency had conducted raids on board a cruise ship that was en route to Goa from Mumbai. Aryan Khan and others took part in the rave party on the ship and the NCB had said that the officials had seized the drugs from them.
The case had stirred another round of drug racket in Bollywood and the NCB had arrested 20 people so far in the case and two of them were granted bail by the special NDPS court earlier this week. Recently, the NCB had also investigated Bollywood star Ananya Pandey under the grounds of supplying drugs to Aryan Khan. Aryan Khan was represented by senior advocate Sathish Maneshinde and his bail plea was rejected by the special court after the NCB claimed that it had retrieved Aryan Khan's WhatsApp chats in which he discussed drugs. He then approached Bombay High Court and secured the bail on Thursday with 14 conditions. It is pertinent to note that Shah Rukh Khan had come to the prison once to visit his son.
