Actor Vijay donates for COVID-19 relief efforts: How much and where it goes?

Tamil Actor Vijay has, on Wednesday, announced that he would be donating Rs 1.30 crore towards COVID-19 relief efforts through which he has joined the list of his fellow celebrities who had released their contributions to fight against the spread and to provide relief materials to the affected people. 

Unlike the rest of the celebrities who mostly contributed to the Prime Minister's and Chief Minister's relief funds, Vijay has split up his donation to the south Indian states, where, he indeed enjoys a strong fan base. Adding to that, the actor would also be contributing to the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) which houses most of the Tamil cinema workers who are now burdened to meet their requirements with having no pay due to the lockdown.

 

According to the sources, Vijay's contribution would be distributed to the Prime Minister Fund and to the Chief Minister's Funds in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Pondicherry and along with providing contributions to the respective governments, the actor would be providing the contribution to the fan clubs with the view of helping the affected people directly, which also includes in the total contribution of Rs 1.30 crore.

As per the split up, Rs 25 lakh would be provided for Prime Minister's Relief Fund, Rs 50 lakh goes for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Relief Fund, Rs 10 lakh for Kerala Chief Minister Relief Fund, Rs 25 lakh for FEFSI, and Rs 5 lakh each to the Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Pondicherry Chief Minister's Relief Funds and the rest 5 lakh would be for the fan clubs to provide assistance to the people directly.

Earlier, Actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar, Surya, Karthik, Siva Karthikeyan, Raghavan Lawrence, and many had either donated to FEFSI or to the Relief Funds to help the affected and needy people. His donation has come at a crucial time when the state has been reeling to stem the spread of the virus by imposed complete lockdown and restrictions that would be in place till May 3rd. Vijay has finished acting Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial 'Master' that was deferred from release in the wake of the lockdown.
