A 22-year-old woman techie dies in Chennai in front of her brother after her two-wheeler hits a pothole!

Showcasing the menace posed by the potholes for yet another time, a 22-year-old woman techie in Chennai had died after her two-wheeler hit a pothole and she came under the wheels of a lorry that was coming from behind. The woman was identified as Shobana, a software engineer who was a resident of Porur. She died in front of her brother, who was a pillion rider. 

The fatal accident occurred on Tuesday- January 3, while she was riding her two-wheeler on the Tambaram-Maduravoyal bypass road in Maduravoyal. Shobana was working at Zoho Corporation and after learing about her demise, Zoho's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sridhar Vembu said that the bad roads have caused a tragic loss to her family and Zoho. 

According to the Poonamallee traffic police, Shobana was taking her brother, who is a Class 12 student, to a school in Mogappair. Shobana was taking the Maduravoyal service road when her two-wheeler ran over a pothole during which she lost control of her vehicle. She had fallen on the ground and before she could get up, she came under the wheels of a lorry that was coming from behind. 

Shobana died on the spot while her brother suffered injuries. The police rushed to the spot and recovered Shobana's body and sent for post-mortem. Her brother has been receiving treatment and the police have said that Shobana and her brother were not wearing helmets. 

It has been reported that the road where the accident took place recorded 423 road accidents and it has been considered one of the deadliest stretches. Sharing about her death, Sridhar Vembu took to Twitter and wrote, "One of our engineers, Ms. Shobana died tragically when her scooter skidded in the heavily potholed roads near Maduravoyal in Chennai. She was taking her younger brother to school. Our bad roads have caused a tragic loss to her family and Zoho."
