The Tamil Nadu police have filed a case against a 12-year-boy under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act with the connection to impregnating a 17-year-old girl. The case was registered by the Thanjavur All Women Police and the incident has come to revelation after the minor girl has given birth to a baby.
She delivered the baby at the Government Raja Mirasudar Hospital on April 16 and the boy has been sent to a juvenile home. The police have said that they had received the information from the police outpost at the hospital that a 17-year-old girl had given birth to a baby girl. Initially, she was admitted to the hospital on April 16 after she developed stomach pain and while the doctors had examined her, they were shocked to find that she was nine months pregnant.
The girl gave birth to a baby the same day and based on the information from the hospital, the police had questioned her during which she had divulged that she was in a relationship with a 12-year-old boy, who lived in the same neighbourhood, for the past few years and she had got pregnant. Based on her confession, the police had registered a case against the boy.
An FIR has been registered under sections 5(i), 5 (j)(ii) - aggravated penetrative sexual assault, and 6 - punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault of the POCSO Act and the boy was taken into custody. He was sent to a juvenile home in Thanjavur. Besides taking the boy into custody, the police are investigating in the angle whether anyone else was involved in the crime.
Speaking to IANS, the police had said that though the girl had named the 12-year-old boy, the officials are investigating whether anyone else was involved in the crime. Police Inspector Ravimathi has said that they have decided to ascertain the boy's age using scientific methods and a DNA test.
