Little maestro Yuvan Shankar Raja is over the moon as he is all set to get conferred with an honorary doctorate. The bestowment will be made to the famous musician, weeks after he completed 25 years of his musical career. Yuvan Shankar Raja, the youngest son of legendary musician Ilaiyaraaja, made his debut as the music director with the movie 'Aravindhan' in 1997.
He has rendered his music for over 100 movies and he will be honoured with a Doctorate on September 3 - Saturday. The honour will be conferred by the Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in a ceremony. After the conferment, the musician will be called Dr Yuvan Shankar Raja. The event will be held at 10 am on Saturday at the premises of the institution.
The 42-year-old musician conquered the young hearts of the mid-2000s with his breakthrough songs. He pioneered the practice of remixing older songs and is renownedly known for masterfully fusing elements of western music. He had a separate fan base for his vocals apart from his musical works. He has performed over 80 songs, the majority of which are from his own compositions.
He has recorded for his father Ilaiyaraaja and brother Karthik Raja several times at an early age. Particularly, when he was eight years old, in 1988, he made his first vocal contribution to a song in the Ilaiyaraaja composed movie En Bommukutty Ammavukku and in Anjali (1990). It is pertinent to note that Yuvan Shankar Raja was honoured with Kalaimamani Award in 2018 for best music direction.
Yuvan is currently composing the music for the films "Naane Varuven" starring Dhanush, "Laththi" starring Vishal, "Agent Kannayiram" starring Santhanam, "Love Today" starring Pradeep Ranganathan, "Iraivan Miga Periyavan" starring Ameer, "Paramporul" starring Amithash and Sarathkumar, and another one with"Nivin Pauly's untitled film with director Ram. It is worth mentioning that former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina and director Shankar were also awarded an honorary doctorate from Vels University last month.
