This week might be termed as the Nobel week as the Nobel prize committees have been announcing the laureates of the Nobel Prizes in various streams as the committee had already declared the recipients of the award in the streams of medicine and literature while Norwegian Nobel Committee had today announced the Nobel Peace Prize laureate where it has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.
With having been announced, Abiy Ahmed will be granted with the 100th Nobel Peace Prize that was awarded to him for honoring his exemplary efforts towards achieving peace and international cooperation with the neighborhood country of Eritrea by successfully flagging the peace and ending the military deadlock in the country since the border war during 1998-2000. As the recipient of 100th Nobel Peace Prize, he will receive the award in December this year that carries the amount worth of $900,000.
His name has been finalized amidst a total of 301 candidates who have been nominated for the reputed award that will include 223 individuals and 78 organizations and out of these nominations, there were speculations that the prize will be awarded to Greta Thunberg for her potential and exceptional campaign for climate change and today the Chair of Norwegian Nobel Committee Berit Reiss-Andersen had officially named Abiy Ahmed Ali as the laureate of Nobel Peace Prize 2019.
Abiy Ahmed Ali, the youngest head of the government in Africa currently, had became the Prime minister of Ethiopia in April 2018 after which he had successfully introduced liberal reforms by freeing the country from its tight hands. During his tenure, he let thousands of opposition activists to walk free from the prison and signed a significant peace deal with Eritrea by lowering the tensions with military standoff nation but however, his reformative policies were voiced against by the ethnic community of Ethiopia that had led massive violence resulting to displacement of some 2.5 million people.
Speaking about the conformity of the award, the Norwegian Nobel committee had said that Abiy Ahmed Ali has been honored for his initiative towards ending and resolving the border conflict with the neighboring country of Eritrea. Commenting about the honor, Ethiopia's Prime ministerial office had stated that the award symbolize the ideals of the unity, cooperation and mutual coexistence that the Prime minister has been working and consistently championing.
The Nobel Prizes will be presented to the recipients on the World Human Rights Day, December 10th in a ceremony which will be held in Swedish capital of Stockholm and Norwegian capital of Oslo.
