While the Tamil Nadu BJP has been desperate to complete the Vetrivel Yatra in its drive of consolidating more Hindu votes ahead of the elections despite the warnings and back to back arrest by the Tamil Nadu police for defying its order and conducting the campaign, the incident recently happened in the state had revealed how the state unit of the Central ruling party is desperate to attract more crowds towards the campaign.
The BJP unit has been carrying out the campaign across the state since last week and the party has been eyeing to make it big in its bid to showcase the crowds and members that it had yielded ahead of the assembly polls. When the party had claimed that it had seen the presence of thousands of people in the campaign, the incident that happened in Tiruvannamalai district had revealed what the saffron party is carrying out behind the screens to cover more people.
According to our sources, the BJP had announced that the Vetrivel Yatra will be conducted in Tiruvannamalai on November 17 at 4 pm. The arrangements for the campaign were made by BJP district leader Jeevanandham and the vice-president of the party's business wing Thanigaivel had accepted to take care of the expenses for the campaign in the district. The party had fished more people to the campaign by using the bait of providing Rs 300 per person and biriyani for those who took part in the campaign.
The Vetrivel Yatra in Tiruvannamalai had seen the presence of more geriatric people. With its bait of covering more people, the BJP's campaign had seen the presence of over 2000 people and many had rubbed their shoulders on the stage. However, the police had decided to arrest everyone as the party had organized the campaign against the order of the state ruling ADMK government.
When police tried to arrest, most of the people had fled the spot by citing that they had participated in the campaign after they were called by the BJP. When police were in the operation of arresting the people, the party leaders had seen a fewer number of people getting arrested following which, in a bid to show that the party has got more members for the campaign, the leaders and organizers said to the people that they will only get biriyani and money only if they got arrested.
After hearing that, many people got arrested and got into the government buses brought by the police to take them from the spot. The police had taken the people and lodged them in four places including marriage halls. When the police official had acquired the details of the arrested persons, our sources say that the BJP leaders said them to provide their details to get biriyani and money.
Hours later, the arrested people were released following which the BJP had provided a box of biriyani and water bottle to those who got arrested and the incident has stirred strong speculations that whether the state unit of the Central ruling party has been covering more people for its campaign by using the baits of money and food. The party has planned to tour all the six adobes (Aaru Padai Veedu) of Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu ahead of the elections.
The campaign was planned from November 6 to December 6. However, the state ruling ADMK government has denied its permission for BJP to carry out the campaign by citing the COVID-19 spread and restrictions for large scale gathering. Despite the ban, the BJP leaders have been organizing the campaign across the state due to which BJP leaders including Tamil Nadu BJP President L Murugan have been facing arrests.
