You must know: What is 'Chennai Bus' app launched by MTC and how to use it?

In a significant relief to the commuters in Chennai, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has launched the 'Chennai Bus' mobile application through which the Chennaiites can be able to track the live location of the MTC buses. They can also monitor the movements of 3,233 MTC buses. Importantly, the commuters can reach out to their contacts or the police through the app in case of any emergency.

Launching the app on Wednesday- May 4, Tamil Nadu Transport Minister SS Sivasankar said that the passengers can find the live location of all MTC buses using the app along a particular route, estimated arrival time, and the nearest bus stops from any given location in the city. It has been reported that the MTC buses run on 602 routes and halt at 6,026 stoppages, including destinations.

The commuters can use the app to have a hassle-free travel to major destinations across the city. When a commuter clicks the bus route option and enters the route number, all the operational buses will be displayed on the screen. The user can go on to click the route option to have a look at the location of buses operating between two destinations and will know the expected time of their arrival.

With the view of letting the commuters swiftly report any emergency,  the app carries an SOS button on its top right corner and the commuters can access it. They can also report the emergency directly to the police or to their contacts through the app. The commuters can also contact the bus depot managers across the city and share their feedback. The app is currently available for Android users and can be downloaded from the Play Store. It is available in two languages - Tamil and English.
