DMK President and Tamil Nadu Opposition Leader MK Stalin has slammed Edappadi Palaniswami's government in the state on its handling of the crisis triggered by the Coronavirus pandemic.
In his statement that was issued on Wednesday, the DMK President said the ruling ADMK government has wasted nearly 90 days by imposing lockdown without curbing the spread of the virus in the state. The opposition leader said that people living in Chennai have been leaving the city in the wake of the COVID-19 and economic crisis and the city, which once welcomed more people, has now become deserted.
By citing that people are also leaving the city owing to the unaffordability of rent and cost of living, Stalin demanded the Chief Minister to stabilize the livelihoods in the city. The DMK President, who is also a major critic of Central ruling BJP party, said that Prime Minister Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had made announcements for Rs 20 lakh crore of new schemes when the government was demanded to provide funds for people.
Stalin stated that people in Tamil Nadu are currently living in their golden hour and urged the Chief Minister to act upon now and initiate proper measures to contain the virus. He further asked the state government not to let upcoming days go vain like the past ninety days which had pushed people into deep anxiety.
By calling the government to act at least now, Stalin said that the absence of relief on electricity and an increase in fuel prices had let people suffer more and stated Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, who runs the government, has failed to protect people from getting vulnerable in the wake of the lockdown.
