A women police officer in the state of Gujarat has been transferred from her post for stopping and questioning MLA's son and two of his friends for reportedly breaching the lockdown restrictions and night curfew that have been imposed in the state in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
According to the reports, the incident has happened last Wednesday in Surat, Gujarat. Police Constable Sunita Yadav was deputed in the area to monitor the movement of people during which she questioned Prakash Kanani, the son of Kumar Kanani, the sitting MLA in Gujarat who is also serving as the Health Minister and two of his friends for violating the curfew.
Initially, Yadav stopped two of Prakash Kanani's friends around 10.30 pm last Wednesday when the night curfew was in place. She was questioning two of them for violating the lockdown following which the friends called Prakash Kanani to the spot. Kanani went to the spot in his father's car and moments later, the trio had picked up a heated argument with the woman police officer.

The video of the argument was widely circulated and went viral on social media and the audio clips of the argument were also shared on Saturday. In the clips, the trio had threatened her by claiming that they had the power to make her stand at the same place for 365 days. In retaliation, constable Sunita Yadav said that she is not their slave or a servant of their fathers to make her stand at the same place.
Following the eruption of the video of the argument, Prakash Kanani and two of his friends were arrested and booked under sections 188 - disobedience to order, 269, 270- negligent and malignant act likely to spread infection of the disease, and section 144 of the Indian Penal Code. However, the trio was later set out of bail, according to the Assistant Commissioner of Police Surat.
While the trio got the interim release, police officer Sunita Yadav has been transferred which erupted major controversy as many across the social media criticized that the police have buckled under political pressure. Being caught up with the outrage, the state police department has launched a probe into the matter following the transfer and the controversy that it has triggered.
On Saturday, Surat Police Commissioner Brahmbhatt has directed the inquiry into the matter after constable Sunita Yadav said she was threatened by some men when she stopped the trio for violating the night curfew. However, some reports say that Sunita Yadav has resigned after getting frustrated over what has happened. On the other hand, Kumar Kanani, MLA of Varachha Road claimed that his son was on his way to the civil hospital as his father-in-law for undergoing treatment for Coronavirus.
