The Chennai city police had today launched an initiative to empower and to enhance the women living in the city's slum areas with the motive to cementing the upliftment for their lives towards creating the prospects of development.
The reports say that the crime against women and children wing had flagged 'Slum girls empowerment programme' with collaborative partnership with FICCI Ladies Organization. It has been reported that the programme will be conducted as a part of the wing's social development and community initiatives.
The police in the crime wing has cited that the objective of the empowerment initiative is to focus on identifying about 50 girls in each slum area of the city after which those selected candidates to the programme will efficiently undergo the training workshops in the fields of nursing, driving and much of the prospective areas towards attaining stable employment and income source opportunities.
The reports had indicated that in its first phase of the training programme, about 10 slum areas including Thideerkuppam, Kannammapettai, Teynampet, Kothamedu, Sundaranagar Kuppam, Thomas nagar, Thideer nagar kuppam and Mackey's garden kuppam where 50 girls will be finalized and picked up from each slum following which they will receive extensive training and based on the successive first phase, the training programme will be flagged in rest of the slum areas to bring out the women from the hands of slums to the hands of development.
Speaking about the empowering initiative, the deputy commissioner of the police- crime against women and children wing Jayalakshmi had inauguarated the training programme today that held in Saidapet police Boys club in Kothamedu in the presence of the Assistant commissioner of Saidapet range and FLO chairperson Deepali Goyal.
She further invited the women and girls from the slums to participate in the training programme that will empower them and their families.
