As the state of Tamil Nadu is just three days away to mark the end of the extended lockdown spell with the growing speculations on whether the government would pour some relaxations to resume and revive the economy, the state government has signaled that the industries residing in the green zones would be allowed to recommence its operations beyond May 3.
During the video conferencing meeting with the district collectors that held on Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami said that the government will be issuing orders for resuming the industries in the green zones of the state. The government would roll out further instructions after the conclusion of the cabinet meeting that has been scheduled on May 2nd.
According to the reports, the Central government has segregated the regions based on the total number of COVID-19 affected cases. The region which reported more cases would be marked as Red Zones, while limited cases would be colored as Orange Zones whereas Green would be stamped for the region which has reported no positive case for the virus.
The district collectors who govern the regions under Green zones can permit the industries in the areas to resume the operations gradually after the government order. The Chief Minister stated that all business units can be allowed to operate in green zones. The Chief Minister also instructed the collectors to resume the operations of cement, sugar, medical equipment, sago industries, and steel mills to operate if these industries are not located in the banned and restricted areas.
Tamil Nadu currently has 25 districts that are mapped under the Red Zones after reporting 15 or more than 15 cases in less than four days while it has 11 districts under Orange Zones after reporting less than 15 or no new cases in the last 14 days. As of Wednesday evening, the state has reported 2,162 positive cases of which 922 are active patients, 1,210 have been discharged while 27 had succumbed to the virus.
Krishnagiri is the only district in the state that stays under the Green Zone with reporting no positive case since the outbreak. The region would be marked under Green Zones if it has not reported any fresh cases for the virus in the last 28 days.
