With the view of implementing space accessibility and to enhance the corridors of cleanliness and appearances, the beaches in Chennai city have been proposed to station the regularity over the vending stalls and the peddlers.
It has been reported that Marina beach would be kickstarted with this new initiative where the numbers of the vendors in the World's second longest beach will be limited and they will be provided with the licensed carts by city's corporation with labels and names of the vendors. The reports say that under this proposal, all the vending carts would be regulated and the numbers of peddlers would be brought to a fixed number with the motive of shortening the space occupied on the beach.
The reports stated that the Madras High court was informed by the Chennai corporation last January that the city's chief body will execute precise bylaws to systemize the hawkers in the beaches. After asserting to regularize the stalls in the beaches, the city's corporation had surveyed the beaches after which it had filtered about 1500 vendors who will be given with permanent place on the beach with the licensed cart.
The sources close to the corporation have cited that the authorities had finalized the designs of the carts that will be issued to all vendors in the beach and added that the number of 1500 vendors would be permanent where no other people will be consented to install their stalls in the beach. Initially, the vendors of the food stalls would be given with the licensed carts with their names and labels and the vendors will be mandated to pay minimal rent to the corporation. While commenting about the potential of the project, the sources have revealed that the biggest challenge for the corporation is to set up stable parameters to maintain the stalls and the given grids. This project will be commenced in all the beaches in the city with the aim of creating more space accessibility and to modernize the appearances of the beaches and adding to that, the Corporation would be concentrating to overview the hygiene of the stalls and vendors.
This project of enhancing and regulating the beach and the stalls in the beach would be funded by the National Urban livelihood mission and Tamil Nadu Urban livelihood mission and with the view of implementing the project, the Chennai corporation officials have been scheduled to table a meet with the state government on November 14th, 2019.
