Will Chennai receive more rain? Here's the latest prediction!

For Chennaiites, a respite from rainfall is not in reach for the next two days as the latest forecast has predicted more downpours for the city, though the intensity scale would come down. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has on Monday said that heavy rains will travel towards south Tamil Nadu and the southern districts will record heavy rains till Tuesday.

While Chennai will be receiving light to moderate rain for the next two days, the southern districts of Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, and Ramanathapuram will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. The prediction has said that thunderstorms with heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at isolated places over Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli districts on November 29. Thunderstorm with heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram districts.

The trend will continue in the southern districts on November 30. The weather watchdog has said that the cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area and the adjoining Sri Lanka coast in the lower level may move and emerge in the Arabian Sea. This phenomenon will happen from Monday and on Sunday, several areas of Chennai including Meenambakkam, Ennore, West Tambaram, Villivakkam, Chembarambakkam, and Nungambakkam had recorded heavy rains.

The incessant rainfall in Tamil Nadu throughout November had also claimed several lives and devastated properties on a large scale. Amid facing disruption, hundreds and thousands of people have been evacuated and housed in temporary shelters. Tamil Nadu Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, KKSSR Ramachandran has said that the state government has been assessing the damage caused by the rainfall during the past ten days and will present a report to the Chief Minister.

He said that the state government, especially the revenue department is taking stock of the losses caused by the rainfall and will be giving a fresh proposal to the Chief Minister to seek central assistance. He further said that the government and revenue department have made all the necessary arrangements to deal with any eventuality during the heavy rains in South Tamil Nadu on Monday and Tuesday. He also highlighted that the teams from the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force are kept ready to address further issues during the rainfall.
