Chennai police have on Saturday - November 4 arrested actor and BJP leader Ranjana Nachiyar on the grounds of beating and abusing the students on a government bus in the city. A team of police officials entered Ranjana's residence in Gerugambakkam near Kundrathur and took her into custody, a day after her controversial conduct went viral on social media.
On Friday - November 3, Ranjana Nachiyar stopped a government bus in Kundrathur after witnessing a group of students foot boarding on the bus. In a visual, Ranjana was seen employing derogatory remarks against the bus driver and conductor, slamming them for letting students dangerously. In what has become her attempt of moral policing, the BJP leader then went on to ask the students to disembark the bus.
She also slapped and abused some of the students and behaved rudely towards them as the other commuters went speechless. Ranjana went on to say that she is a police officer and she forcefully pulled some of the students from the bus. Her conduct of moral policing and abusing the students, driver, and conductor has also caused traffic disruption.
The visuals were rampantly shared on social media with the users lambasting her for sparking a public nuisance and using law at her discretion. The users have also commented that instead of reporting the overcrowding and footboard travel to the police, her conduct had apparently displayed her drive to seek attention and that an action must be initiated against her.
As the visuals went viral, a case has been registered against Ranjana Nachiyar for abusing the students and not allowing government officials from performing their duties. The Mangadu police in Chennai filed an FIR against the BJP leader under Sections 341 - punishment for wrongful restraint, 323 - punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, 353 - assault to deter public servant from discharging duties of Indian Penal Code and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, which warrants punishment for cruelty to child.
On Saturday, a team of police officials entered Ranjana's residence to arrest her. However, as per the visuals, she was seen resisting the police officials, demanding an arrest warrant and she also refused to board a police car, insisting that she would come to the station in her own vehicle. However, the police officials urged her to cooperate with the case after which she was taken to the station in a police car.

38-year-old Ranjana claims to be an advocate and the secretary of Tamil Nadu BJP's arts and culture wing. As an actor, she had appeared in some movies and soap operas. She had played supporting roles in the movies 'Irumbu Thirai', 'Natpe Thunai', and 'Annaatthe'. According to our sources, Ranjana Nachiyar has two children and it is reported that she is a relative of Tamil movie director Bala.
In 2022, Ranjana Nachiyar addressed reporters during which she made an explosive allegation that her father-in-law Saravana Vel had sexually harassed her and that she wasn't getting respect from her family. She also claimed that her husband is mentally unstable and that his family conned her by concealing this fact. She also caught into controversy by releasing a video of boasting her caste.
