Who is Dr V Nagarajan? The president of Madurai AIIMS who died due to heart attack at 77!

Renowned Tamil Nadu doctor V Nagarajan has passed away in the wee hours of Friday - January 13 at the age of 77 in Chennai due to heart attack. The deceased doctor is widely popular as a neurologist and as the president of AIl India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Madurai. 

Nagarajan was appointed as the President of AIIMS Madurai in October 2022 amid the snail-paced construction of AIIMS Madurai. He was a senior neuro consultant at VN Neuro Care Centre and Hospital in Madurai and he also served as the chairman of ethical committee at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. He also had served as an Honorary Distinguished Professor at the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.

Notably, Nagarajan is the father-in-law of Dr J Radhakrishnan IAS, a well-known bureaucrat who is currently serving as the Secretary of the Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection Department, government of Tamil Nadu. Nagarajan has a wife Mohanarani and a daughter Krithika, whose spouse is Radhakrishnan. After learning about his demise, several leaders and fraternities have been paying tribute. 

According to reports, Nagarajan was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Hospital in Porur, Chennai and he died due to heart attack during the wee hours of Friday. Mourning his death, AIIMS Madurai said his demise is a great loss. Taking to Twitter, the institution wrote, "With profound Grief & Sorrow, we regret to inform the sudden demise of the President, AIIMS Madurai Dr V. Nagarajan last Night. It is a great loss to AIIMS, Madurai. We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.We pray for the eternal peace of the departed Soul." 

AIIMS Madurai CEO and Executive Director Hanumantha Rao said that Dr Nagarajan was a gentlemen and involved in all the development activities of AIIMS. Rao further said, "He virtually attended the governing body meeting of Madurai AIIMS, despite undergoing treatment at the hospital. Such was his commitment." Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has also expressed condolences to Nagarajan's family and said that the deceased doctor's contributions will always be remembered. 

The Governor's office said, "Dr Nagarajan was a mentor to the neurological medical fraternity and his contributions to the medical field will always be remembered." "My family joins me in conveying our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace", Governor stated. Dr Nagarajan's son-in-law Dr J Radhakrishnan IAS said, "Dr Nagarajan was the most active and enthusiastic person I have met for his age."
