Pa Ranjith, whose previous works include the socially conscious features Kaala and Kabali, has long aspired to direct Thangalaan, as this is his dream project. In addition to Parvathy Thiruvothu and Malavika Mohanan, the film also stars Pasupathy, Harikrishnan Anbudurai, and others. GV Prakash Kumar composed the score, and A. Kishor Kumar shot the film.The filmmaker recently met with journos and shared an exciting update for the fan base.
He revealed that production on the highly anticipated Thangalaan, is drawing to a close. The film, which is set in the backdrop of the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) from 1870 to 1900, has wrapped up its major schedule in the KGF sets and is planning to finish the remaining portions in Chennai and Madurai by May. He also said that the film will be out by the end of the year. Many reports claims that the film will be presumably debut by September.
The film also has an international star in its cast - English actor Daniel Caltagirone, who has appeared in Hollywood films like The Pianist, The Beach and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. He will be playing a key role in Thangalaan, which is expected to have a lot of visual effects and prosthetics.
The title announcement video of Thangalaan, which was released last year, created a huge buzz among the fans and the industry. The video showed Vikram in a rugged look with a long beard and a turban, holding a sword. The film is produced by K E Gnanavel Raja under the banners of Studio Green and Neelam Productions.
Thangalaan is slated to release later this year, and the makers are confident that it will be a landmark film in Tamil cinema. Vikram, who is also awaiting the release of Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2, will be promoting both the films extensively across various locations. Thangalaan promises to be a grand spectacle that will showcase the talents of Vikram and Pa Ranjith in a new light.
In a recent interview, producer Dhananjayan praised Pa Ranjith for his vision and passion for Thangalaan. He said that the film covers a huge 70-year timeline from 1870 to 1940 and shows how KGF has evolved and the role of Thangalaan in it.
