When Class 12 supplementary exams will be conducted in TN? Here's all you need to know!

Exactly a week after releasing the board exam results of Class 12 students based on the first-of-its-kind evaluation criteria, the Tamil Nadu government has now announced the dates and schedule of the supplementary exams for the Class 12 students from August 6 to August 19. The supplementary exams will be held for the students who are not satisfied with their final marks that were awarded based on the criteria.

By announcing the schedule of the supplementary exams, the Directorate of Government Examinations has said that the students, including private candidates, can apply for the supplementary exams for all the subjects from June 23 to June 27. The students can approach government examination service centres and apply for exams except for Sunday. The reports say that the students who are aggrieved with the marks based on the criteria are only eligible to attend the exams for all the subjects.

On July 19, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has released the final results of the Class 12 students. As the board exams were cancelled in the state in light of the horrendous second wave of the pandemic, the state government's panel has constituted criteria under which the students would be awarded the final marks. Over eight lakh students were declared pass as per the criteria excluding some of the students who had missed out on the evaluation criteria to pass the board exams.

The minister further said that 8,16,473 students were declared pass and 1,656 students had failed to clear the evaluation criteria as these students didn't attend the schools. During the time of the announcement, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has said that the supplementary exams will be conducted for the students who are not satisfied with their final marks. Days after his announcement, the Directorate of Government Examinations has announced the dates of supplementary exams.

After cancelling the board exams, the government has formed a panel to research and formulate the evaluation criteria based on which the final marks were awarded for the students. As per the criteria, the final marks are to be awarded for the Class 12 students based on the marks they had scored in the previous board examinations and practical exams. The marks they scored in the Class 10 board exam have carried 50% weightage, the marks they scored in the Class 11 exams have carried 20% of weightage, and the Class 12 internal assessment and practical exam marks were given the rest of 30% weightage.

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi has earlier said that the Class 12 students can apply for arts, science, and engineering admissions from July 26 and with the assumption that the final results of the CBSE students will be declared by the end of July, the minister said that the admissions will go on in the state till August 24 with the view of easing and providing enough time for the CBSE students to apply for the undergraduate courses.
