Over 500 people in Tamil Nadu have been admitted to the hospitals across the state after they endured burn injuries during Diwali after the celebrations have gone wrong. The number of people hospitalized due to burn injuries in the last two years was low in wake of the Covid pandemic.
According to reports, around 525 people are being treated at various government hospitals in the state after suffering burn injuries. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian has visited the victims who are getting treated at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Stanley Government Medical College and Hospital, Egmore Children's Hospital, and Kilpauk Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday.
Ma Subramanian met people receiving treatment and inquired about their health and treatment given. The Health Minister said that there are a total of 345 outpatients and 180 inpatients being treated at government medical college hospitals in the state. He further said that all the patients are monitored closely and all kind of medical support has been made available at the hospitals.
The minister added that the burn wards were kept ready across the state to treat the victims. According to the state's health department, a total of five patients, including four inpatients were admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital. Around 36 patients, including 11 patients are being treated at Stanley Medical College and Hospital, 11 children with 2 inpatients are admitted to Egmore Children's Hospital and 17 burn patients, including seven inpatients are being treated at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital.
It is pertinent to note that in 2020, there were 350 people in Tamil Nadu who got treated for burn injuries during Diwali while the number was close to 500 in 2021. On the other hand, the Tamil Nadu police have booked hundreds of cases across the state against the people for bursting crackers by defying the government's guidelines and instructions.
