It's been three months since DMK's MK Stalin came to power in Tamil Nadu. Stalin has assumed the office of the Chief Minister for the first time with a landslide victory in the state assembly polls and while the anti-incumbency wave against the ADMK regime was a pivotal factor that made DMK's victory possible, Stalin's poll promises shouldn't be kept aside in his trajectory towards taking over the reign.
Stalin has put out hundreds of poll promises with the assurance that he will be fulfilling them after coming to power. However, his government has claimed that the previous ADMK regime has worsened the financial state in Tamil Nadu and that the poll promises will be met soon. While the DMK is preparing to table the white paper on the state's financial condition, several opposition parties including ADMK and BJP have brought Stalin's rule under scrutiny with their protests against the Stalin administration not for fulfilling the promises.
However, while the DMK government has been castigated by the opposition, a DMK Minister is setting a precedent for his colleagues by delighting the people of his constituency. DMK Minister Sakkarapani, who is elected from the Ottanchatram constituency, has drawn major attention from across the state by inaugurating the schemes for Rs 70 crores in seven days in his constituency. Sakkarapani has been with the DMK for over three decades and he has been elected for the legislative assembly six times, including the current tenure.
Being one of the loyal aides of MK Stalin, Sakkarapani was made the Tamil Nadu Minister of Food and Distribution. According to our sources, Sakkarapani has unveiled various projects and schemes including panchayat offices, Aganwadis, compound walls in government schools, water storage tanks to enhance water supply, construction to augment the roads, society halls, and sanitation facilities in the rural areas around Ottanchatram in seven days and these welfare schemes would cost Rs 70 crores. He also has laid foundation stones for several projects and a pile of schemes from Sakkarapani in seven days has surprised voters and people across the state.
Besides unveiling these schemes, Sakkarapani has inaugurated several projects like free ambulance services that were funded by his MLA fund. Some of the locals and party cadres in his constituency have said that the previous ADMK regime didn't let Sakkarapani carry out people welfare schemes in Ottanchatram, the constituency that represents for a decade. Amid such politics, Sakkarapani has managed to bring some basic facilities from the ADMK rule to his constituency by organizing several protests.
They further say that as Sakkarapani has become a minister in Stalin's cabinet, he has been inaugurating the schemes at his constituency and has held meetings with the district administration to expedite the process of completing the people welfare schemes. With his directive, the district authorities have been working steadfastly in taking the schemes to the people and Sakkarapani has also inaugurated an initiative of planting 5 lakh saplings in the district.
Sakkarapani is one of the first-time ministers in the current MK Stalin cabinet and his works in his constituency have gained more significance across and beyond the state. While enjoying crucial support from the local voters and party cadres, Sakkarapani has also set a precedent for his ministerial colleagues in carrying out the projects in three months of becoming a minister. Sakkarapani was one of the ministers in Stalin's team in battling the pandemic and he has been taking stock of the situation at the public distribution (ration) shops across the state and has been hearing the concerns from the people in the ration shops and reviewing whether people are getting quality goods in the ration shops.
