It's obvious that the employees attached to the IT companies share an intimate relationship with the style of 'Work from Home' than any other professions and with being pedaling through tough and unprecedented times triggered by the COVID-19 outbreak, this working style has become a common model among the IT and various sectors as the techies and the other concerned professions are settling up for the new normal.
Most of the employees of the Indian IT companies have converted their homes as their official workplace and getting used to the model that was temporary before. As the COVID-19 cases continue to soar in India, the Central government has now passed an order through which the employees of the IT companies would spend the rest of the year through working from the home.
According to the reports, the Department of Telecommunications has, on Tuesday, passed an order of extending the deadline of working from home till December 31, 2020. Earlier, the deadline was till the end of July and through the fresh order, the companies can instruct their employees to stick to the status quo of working from home till the end of the year.
The order has been welcomed by the IT companies which signaled that the firms are not in the hurry to call back the employees. The order also applies for the BPO companies and the relaxation of permitting the work from home model till 2020 would be deserting the IT parks and the firms across the country. These companies have turned silent when the lockdown was imposed and it would stay the same during the rest of the year.
Welcoming the order of extending the tenure of Work from Home, Wipro chairman Rishad Premji said, "Thank you to the government for their tremendous support on the new ways of working from Day 1. This has helped tremendously in further elevating our standing and responsiveness globally". Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh has thanked Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for proposing an extension in the deadline of work from home.

Earlier, Nasscom has written to the Union Ministry and asked it to make the relaxations around work from home permanent. The IT companies had already made the WFH model as a new normal and the further extension would keep the campus deserted. As per orders of some of the state governments, the IT companies can operate between 30 percent and 50 percent capacity.
However, a large number of IT companies have been employing less than five percent of their employees to work from offices. Most of the top IT companies said that over 90% of their employees are working from home and it would less likely call them back to the office until everything returns to normal. According to the reports, the Indian IT and ITeS industry employs about 50 lakh people and the COVID-19 pandemic has put such a huge manpower inside the home and driven them to gear up for the new normal.
