Wedlock amid the lockdown: How a TN-Kerala couple's check-post wedding became unique?

The Chinnar check-post, which is one of the active check-posts connecting Kerala and Tamil Nadu, has, on Sunday morning, turned its role and became a host of a wedding after a couple tied a knot in the middle of the forest flanked by nature, family members, and forest officials as the newlyweds had wedlock-ed amid the lockdown in no less than a grand ceremony.

The TN-Kerala couple has shown that the lockdown is a boundary to contain the spread of COVID-19 and it can't curb the boundary of relationship and love as they shared and exchanged the tradition and culture of both states on the check-posts that connects both of them. Bride Priyanka belongs to Mattupetti in Idukki district, Kerala while groom Robinson hails from Saravanapettai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

Their marriage was initially fixed for March 22. However, the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown had deferred the occasion and they were pushed to wait for longer and after there have been some relaxations in the fifth phase of the lockdown, the couple found that it would be the right time and they don't want to miss following which they approached the governments and obtained the passes.

The bride and groom get ready to tie a knot amid nature in TN-Kerala border

The betrothal couple has decided to get married in the Chinnar check post. Robinson acquired the pass till Chinnar while the bride got a pass to travel to Tamil Nadu. They arrived on Sunday morning as the check-post welcomed them by becoming a host. The groom was accompanied by 12 members from his side while the bride had 25 members.

They stood at either side of the border as a wedding blanket was carpeted near the bridge while the forest officials turned out to be their special guests. While they ensured that the lockdown norms are being followed by both of the parties, the couple tied a knot in the middle of natural music and sounds that replaced orchestra and celebrations.

After the marriage, Priyanka has accompanied Robinson to his village as she has obtained the pass to cross the border from Kerala to Tamil Nadu. According to the local public health care center, the officials were there at the marriage to ensure that the lockdown norms aren't violated and the authorities had also sanitized and disinfected the garlands. The official said that the entire family of the bride and groom could have been kept under quarantine if they conducted the wedding at a marriage hall.

The family members graced the occasion by standing at their respective borders. The marriage took place at the check post since all the family couldn't travel for marriage at either side of the state. By citing that, the marriage held amid nature, which has made the occasion more memorable and unique than what would it have got by conducting in the marriage halls.
