Days after Tamil Nadu Opposition leader and former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has claimed that Chief Minister MK Stalin has been lying about the poll promises, senior DMK leader and sitting minister Sekar Babu had given a fresh challenge to the ADMK that the DMK is ready to have a statistical debate on the poll promises that were implemented by the DMK after coming to the power and the minister had asked whether the ADMK is ready for the debate.
On Saturday, Chief Minister MK Stalin had released a video address on social media in which he had said that 202 out of 505 poll promises made by the DMK had been fulfilled in four months. In what would become his outreach to the people in letting them know about the schemes and achievements of his government, MK Stalin has said that he will be meeting the people once in three months with a list of achievements to let them know the progress that the government has made.
As his government is going to complete the fifth month, he has put out his plan of enhancing the engagement with the people through his outreach. In a video message, MK Stalin said, "I will meet you once in three months with a list of achievements to let you know of the progress that the government has made." By listing out some of the key poll promises delivered by his government, MK Stalin has said that this is how his government is performing and will continue the same scale of performance every single day.
Besides speaking about some of the delivered poll promises, MK Stalin had touched upon the schemes, that weren't part of the party's election manifesto, that were implemented by his five months old government. He highlighted his recent order of providing free education in engineering courses for the government school students who got admitted to the universities under 7.5% reservation. He also had emphasised his government's battle against the NEET and said that the loans to the tune of Rs 2,756 crore to women self-help groups through cooperative credit societies were waived.
He also said that his government has reduced the price of petrol and presented a separate budget for agriculture and added that his government has also released Rs 317 crore welfare package for Lankan Tamil refugees to improve their living conditions. Hours after Stalin's video, the ADMK had said that he was lying about the poll promises. Speaking at a party meeting in Chengalpet, former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had said that the DMK had confused people and taken advantage of people's ignorance.
The ADMK leader had claimed that the DMK had fulfilled only four to five promises. By citing that the DMK has promised monthly emolument of Rs 1,000 to women homemakers, waiver of gold and educational loans, and a hike in old-age pension to Rs 1,500 per month, Palaniswami had said that none of these schemes were implemented. The former Chief Minister had further alleged that the DMK had no courage to face the ADMK in the local body elections directly.
He said that the rejection of nomination papers of the ADMK candidates in Kallakurichi was the testament of how DMK is fearing to face ADMK directly. Edappadi Palaniswami had gone on to slam Tamil Nadu Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan for not attending the GST council meeting. However, a senior DMK Minister had now called the ADMK for a debate over the schemes brought by the current government. On Monday, DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Sekar Babu had issued a challenge to the ADMK to come for a statistical debate about the schemes implemented by the DMK government after coming to power.
